Glen

Glen
Glen m
Scottish and English: probably a transferred use of the surname, which was originally a topographic name from the Gaelic element gleann valley. It is also possible, however, that the given name is derived directly from the topographic term (compare DEAN (SEE Dean)). In recent years it has been adopted in England as well as Scotland as a given name. There also appears to have been some confusion with the Welsh name GLYN (SEE Glyn).
Variant: Glenn (borne as a female name by the American actress Glenn Close (b. 1947)).
Feminine form: Glenna.
